Classic Hip-Hop: UGK – Front Back Side Side #1994

22 Aug

By: David Piggue, Featuring Author

This song is straight heat. It comes from the down south legends, Pimp C & Bun B, which make up the legendary Underground Kingz (UGK). You may have heard a sample of this on TI’s KING Album. This song also includes samples from “Rigor Mortis” by The Meters & “Boyz-N-The-Hood (Remix)” by Eazy-E.  This track comes off their 2nd Album, Super Tight, released in 1994. I’m putting it on here for you guys in REM Sleep, so enjoy –  this song is in my top 20 of all time. #classic

Summer Knights (Mix-Tape)

9 Aug

Joey-Bada-New-York

By: David Piggue, Featuring Author

On July 1, 2013, Joey Bada$$ released a work of art titled “Summer Knights,” which is his second solo tape. This seventeen track mix-tape is my go to mix-tape of the summer. Which means I pick this over Magna Carta, Yeezus, Born Sinner, etc. IT’S THAT GOOD! You  can find it on Livemixtapes, Datpiff, or any other mix-tape outlet. If you like the golden age of rap when songs had substance and artist’s had dope lyrics, then this mix-tape is your safe haven. My favorites on the tape are DEATH of YOLO, Right on Time, Sweet Dreams, Word is Bond, Sit N, Prey, Trap Door, Satellite, 95 Til Infinity’, Reign,  & Sorry Bonita – basically everything. Kirk Knight produces a few songs and also lends a few verses on the tape too. I really like this guy, his flow is something special. Kind of reminds me of Jay-Z but comparisons are always tough, I see nothing but good things in front Mr. Bada$$ so keep up the good work! Click on the mix-tape below to download!

Good Visuals, Great Music! This song, I guess, is Joey’s rendition of Souls of Mischief’s classic track “93 Til Infinity.” I love it,, he puts together some witty pun’s which make you think about some things.

[Hook]

95 ’til infinity time
We in disguise behind enemy lines
Women with no identity signs, they can’t get my lines
I used to give a fuck you could find

95 ’til infinity time
We in disguise behind enemy lines
And I just kill it every time

This dude is a BEAST! He kind of reminds me of Eminem in the beginning. I don’t really like to compare people … but that’s what comes to mind when I think about it. In this song “The Ill Mind of Hopsin 5″, Hopsin goes over a list of problems that Hip-Hop suffers from today (Whack Rappers, Slackers, Hoes, etc). His lyrics are SICK! This guy is extremely smart and makes a lot of sense. Hopsin reps the West Coast by the way of L.A. and I feel like he represents for them. Keep your eyes on this guy, he’s about to Blow!

Curren$y – Famous

8 Aug

Curreny-His-And-Her-Ferraris

This is by far my favorite Curren$y song ever! This is a sample off of Sade’s  – “Sally,”  so shout to that beautiful woman. Because without Sally there would be no Famous. This song gives you insight into Curren$y and his grind. He talks about how he’s kept everything G despite catching a lil fame. I appreciate this so much. A lot of artists go commercial after they get that one hit and you rarely ever see what captured you in the first place. The beat was produced by Monsta beats, You can find this song on his album Pilot talk II (My favorite album by him also) and  once you hear the baseline ….. It gets funky! Check it out below!
